Richard "Norbs" Dale Nordby was born on May 22, 1937, in Butterfield, Minnesota to Otis and Jane (Langeland) Nordby. He was baptized on June 13, 1937 and later confirmed on March 29, 1953 at the First Lutheran Church in Butterfield. He attended District 24 and Butterfield schools and graduated from Mountain Lake High School with the Class of 1956. In May of 1958, Richard joined the Centennial Marines and was honorably discharged in April of 1964. In 1961, Richard started at Whirlwind, Inc. (known as the Toro Company) in Windom, Minnesota and then went to work at Land O' Lakes in Mountain Lake. He purchased Windom Roofing in 1971 and then eventually sold the business and went back to work at Toro. During the layoffs at Toro, Richard worked part-time at Cargill. Richard retired from Toro after 32 years altogether in May of 2000. Norbs was united in marriage to Brenda Holey on February 13, 1998 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their home in Windom. Richard passed away peacefully at home on Friday afternoon, November 4, 2011, with his wife at his side after a three year battle with cancer at the age of 74. . Richard was a member of the American Legion Post #206 in Windom. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, and going to happy hour and having a few beers with his buddies. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Nordby of Windom; three children, Richard Nordby Jr. and his wife, Toni, of Wyoming, MI; Dustin Nordby and his fiancé, Jacki, of Grandville, MI; and Amber Nordby of Worthington; three grandchildren, Samara, Kiana, and Makaylah; one sister, Lavonne Watson of St. James; two brothers, Dennis Nordby and his wife, Sharon, of New Ulm and Jim Nordby and his wife, Cherie, of Nisswa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Jane Nordby; two brothers, Beryl Nordby and DuWayne Nordby; two sisters, Shirley Piepenburg and Gloria Laske. Blessed be the memory of Richard Dale Nordby.
