Charles Edward Krebs 2/13/1919 – 1/2/2009 Orphaned at age 7 and a successful businessman at 55. Born in Newport, Kentucky. Spent his young adult life in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he met his wife, Elma Grimm, and had two children, Carol and Gary. Moved to Miami, Florida, in 1957, where he became the first franchisee of Burger King, which he operated until 1980. Started his own hamburger chain called Burger Castle. Retired in Boca Raton, and later Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A self-made man, veteran of the US Air Force, accomplished businessman, and devout Catholic. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elma; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Gus Griffin; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Juli Krebs; and grandchildren, Casey Griffin and Chelsea Krebs. Visitation on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 4-7pm at Fred Hunter Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 10:30am at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
