Vera Frances Callaway
Mrs. Vera Frances Callaway, 96, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Blair House Rehabilitation Center. Born August 28, 1915 in Danville, she was the daughter of Harry Johnston and Nettie Pearl Bolton Rice. On September 14, 1935 she married Lester Callaway in Danville. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2003. Mrs. Callaway was a graduate of Danville High School. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Callaway was a member of Parkside Baptist Church and the Des Moines County Historical Society. She enjoyed puzzles, making quilts and was an accomplished baker. hanie Bonnett both of California, Priscilla Bonnett of Colorado, Jason Bonnett and Ryan Bonnett both of New York; Travis Parsons of Pennsylvania; Lillia Meier of St. Louis, Missouri; and one sister; Mabel Vorhees of California. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; daughter, Beth Schwenker; parents; four brothers; three sisters; and one great Noah Scott Callaway. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 22nd, in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Callaway will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 22nd, in Lunning Chapel with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Parkside Baptist Church and the Des Moines County Historical Society. According to Mrs. Callaway's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.
