Joseph William Wiegand, 86, of West Burlington, died 4:15am on November, 20, 2011, at Blair House Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. He was born September 11, 1925 at Taylor, Missouri to Joseph and Edna Fisher Wiegand. In 1936, he moved with his family to Oakville, Iowa and graduated from Oakville Consolidated High School and later Iowa Wesleyan College at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War ll, stationed in the Philippine Islands where he was wounded and sent back to the United States for hospitalization and rehabilitation. In April of 1947 he married Lois Schrock of Oakville. He spent his life farming in the Huron community retiring in later years to Mediapolis, then to West Burlington. His last days were spent at Blair House Care facility where he received tender loving care. He had suffered from Parkinsons disease for many years. His life was dedicated to serving the Lord Jesus and his fellow man. He never knew a stranger. twenty-one great grandchildren; five sisters, Eurnice Wuthrich of Morton, Illinois, Hazel Geyer and Sharon Hodel of Peoria, Illinois, Elizabeth Grimm of Wapello, Joan Lanz of Oakville, and one brother Albert Wiegand of Morning Sun, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and was baptized at age fifteen at the Oakville Apostolic Christian Church. The funeral service for Mr. Weigand will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 23rd at the Oakville Apostolic Christian Church, rural Oakville. Ministers of the church will officiate. Interment will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, rural Oakville. Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd in Lunning Chapel with the family to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice of Burlington and Apostolic Christian World Relief.
