Wayne (Buck) (Ponte) Weaver

Mr. Wayne (Buck) (Ponte) Weaver, 95, of Burlington died Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 12:25 p.m. at Great River Hospice. He was born to Harvey and Lillian Weaver on February 28, 1916. Wayne married Sarah Fisher on August 23, 1962. She preceded him in death in 2004. Wayne served in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in several states in the U.S. and also in Germany, France and Austria. He served under General Patton 3rd Army and earned the rank of T-3 Sergeant. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy during World War II. He worked for Northwestern Cabinet Co. and retired from Carl A. Nelson as a carpenter. Wayne enjoyed fishing, swinging in his swing, feeding the birds, outdoors, his family and friends. He enjoyed Taco Tuesday down at the Shamrock and KFC on Wednesdays, watching the News at 5, Archie, and Saturday night music shows. He will be missed. Wayne is survived by two daughters, Hazel (John) Fainter and Edith (Leroy) Southerland who cared for him the last eight years; two sons, Harvey (Sharon) Fisher and George (Deon) Fisher; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; one niece and three nephews. s his wife Sarah, he is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. The funeral service for Mr. Weaver will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 5th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Tim Frasher will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
