Elnora Nagel

A Celebration of Life Service for Elnora Nagel, 89, will be Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher. Family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Burial at the Indianola I.O.O. F. Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the New Hope United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at the Scottish Rite Park at a later date. Elnora was born October 17, 1921 in Dodge Township, Boone County, Iowa to Herman and Mabel Pritchard Ahrens. She graduated from Ames High School in 1938. Elnora was married to Orville Nagel on December 24, 1939. They were blessed with four children: David, Diane, Michael, and Gary. Elnora worked as a mother, homemaker, and farm wife most of her life. She also worked at Rain & Hail Insurance for more than 20 years and at Employers Mutual Insurance for about 5 years. She was an active member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, baking many pies for the football suppers. She also was a member of the Melcher-Dallas Lions Club. member how special Elnora made each of them feel. She taught her grandchildren to make pies, rolls, and pancakes. Everyone enjoyed the Nagel Cookie Day, where they made Christmas cookies and candy. She gave a hammer and scissors as a special coming of age gift to each family member. She also enjoyed traveling with Orville and spent many winters in Mission, Texas. Elnora passed away March 17, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; parents: Herman and Mabel Ahrens; and siblings: Helen Johnson, Milo Ahrens, and Kenneth Ahrens. She is survived by her children: David (Carolyn) Nagel of West Des Moines, Diane (Joe) Dollison of Polk City, Michael (Linda) Nagel of Barnard, MO, and Gary (Gwendolyn) Nagel of Urbandale; 8 grandchildren: Danette Dollison-Johnson (Mark) Johnson, Mara (Jed) Edler, Doug (Amy) Dollison, Tiffany (John) Spinner, Miranda (Quazi) Jahangir, Ben (Kori) Nagel, Andrew Nagel, and Johanna Nagel; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
