Lawrence Pettyjohn of Hamilton, age 69, passed away Thursday morning, August 4, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was born at home in Marysville, IA to Arthur and Elizabeth Mae Mavin Pettyjohn on October 9, 1941. Larry grew up in Marysville and attended school in Bussey. He enlisted with the United States Army. After his time in the service he married Karen Haney on January 19, 1963 in Attica. They were blessed with six children. Karen died December 8, 2003. Larry worked construction throughout his life. He spent twenty-one years working for Norris Construction. He was a member of the Bussey American Legion, post number 0505. Larry enjoyed: hunting, fishing, beer drinking, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Larry is survived by his children: Diane (Terry) Prough of Chariton, Terri (Lou) Dixon of Alton, MO, Kyle (Diana Miller) Pettyjohn of Beacon, Little Larry Pettyjohn of Beacon, and Nora Pettyjohn of Knoxville, siblings: Orville Pettyjohn of Hamilton, Leland Pettyjohn of Bussey, Judy (Dave) Sytsma of Hamilton, Buck (Cindy) Pettyjohn of Knoxville and Joe (Debby) Pettyjohn of Hamilton, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren...[more]

Larry is preceded in death by parents, wife, daughter, Karen K, brothers, Irving and Mitch, and daughter-in-law, Amy Pettyjohn. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lovilia with Jim Hatfield officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #505 of Bussey and American Legion Chester Bishop 613 of Lovilia, and the Patriot Guard Riders will follow in Marysville Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 8, 2011 opening to the public at 1:00 p.m. and the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Lovilia.
