EDWIN CHAMBERLIN MUSCATINE, Iowa - Edwin P. Chamberlin, 85, of Muscatine, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic's. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson Elementary School Culture Fair or the Salvation Army. Ed was born on August 31, 1926, in Cedar County, the son of Vern M. and Nette Chasteen Chamberlin. He married Charleen A. Johnson on September 4, 1976, in Muscatine. He graduated from Muscatine High School, and Muscatine Community College, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College and his Master's Degree from the University of Iowa. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Japan during World War II. Ed retired from the Muscatine Community School District after 40 years of employment. dministrator. He had worked as Principal at Madison, Garfield, and Jefferson Elementary Schools. He served as President of the Muscatine Education Association in 1965, he was a National Education Association (NEA) delegate from 1970-1972, he served on the Budgeting Committee and the Board of Directors of Muscatine United Way Board of Directors for six years, and also served on the Muscatine Salvation Army Advisory Board for 10 years serving as chairperson for three terms. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 1565. Ed enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels; he loved playing golf, had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful story teller. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and was a die hard Cub fan and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Charleen Chamberlin of Muscatine; six sons, Ed Chamberlin and wife, Debbie, of Muscatine, Dr. Jason Chamberlin and wife, Andra, of Canton, Illinois, Cameron Chamberlin and wife, Jennifer, of Oskaloosa, Doug Fry and wife, Diane, of Muscatine, Ken Fry and wife, Barbara, of Machesney Park, Illinois, and Mike Fry and wife, Lisa, of Mt. Pleasant; four daughters, Nettie Diehl and husband, Lester, of Conesville, Lisa Cozad and husband, Doug, of Conesville, Yvonne Aubrey and husband, Glen, of Urbana, and Bonnee Cassedy and husband, Dan Smith, of Land O Lakes, Florida; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lynne Chamberlin and wife, Mary Ellen, of Davenport, and Melvin Chamberlin and wife, Shirley, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and one sister, Ruth Midkiff of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, Clarence, Lyle, and Roy; two sisters, Lois Hills and Rhea Abbott; and one grandson, Zach Johnson.
