John R Root

John Roland Root, 69, of Green Mountain, NC formerly of Miami, FL; passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Born in Sebring, Florida on August 26, 1942, the son of Roland Lawrence and Rosa Lee (Nix) Root. Raised in Miami, John graduated from Miami Jackson High School. He served in United States Army as a specialist grade 4. Before his retirement in 1999, John worked as a Uniform Citation Coordinator with the State of Florida for many years. At the time of his death, John served as a board member for Yancey County Humane Society in North Carolina. Survived by his beloved wife of 21 years Phyllis Conte Root. Also survived by three children from a previous marriage, Deborah (Joe) Bain, John Root and Christopher (Nina) Root, three step-children, Michelle (James) Tewell, Nicole (Andrew) Boatright and Philip John Worth and 4 grandchildren. A Memorial Service and Celebration of John's Life will be held on Sunday, December 18th at 2:00 P.M. at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Garden's Home, 6301 Taft St. Hollywood.
