John " Jack" G. Derks, 77, Suamico, entered into Eternal life on Friday, December 23, 2011. He was born on August 23, 1934 in Green Bay to the late John H. and Mildred (Barry) Derks. Jack served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956. He married Ethel M. Schmidt on May 24, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2003. Jack loved refinishing furniture, was an avid reader and Packers fan. Jack volunteered for many years at the De Pere Christian Outreach. He enjoyed going to Florida and California during the winters and loved living on the water in Suamico. He had a great sense of humor. Jack was employed with several construction companies where he built homes and schools. He also worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for many years. He was employed with and retired from De Pere Cabinets. He was a third degree Knights of Columbus member of Abbott Pennings De Pere Council 3955. (Pat) Derks; Marilyn's five children, Jim (Lori) Sausen, Tom (Lorie) Sausen, Gregg Sausen and his fiancée, Tina Cody, Amy Sausen (Kurt Nelson) and Michelle Sausen; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S. Oneida Street, from 9:30 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am with Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. A special thank you to the staffs of St. Vincent Hospital, San Luis Rehabilitation Center, Green Bay Oncology and Unity Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Jack.
