Mrs. Joanne Louise Wasson, 78, of New London and formerly Burlington, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 27, 1933 in Burlington to Walter and Vivian Duebner. On November 6, 1952 in Burlington, she married Donald M. Wasson and they later divorced. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She worked at Lomont Plastics in Mt. Pleasant and was a bartender for many years at the Bluebird and Farmers Taverns in New London, Dick's Den in Danville and retired from the VFW in New London. She was a life member of the Women's Auxiliary at the Donald M. Wasson VFW Post #7641 in New London and was very active. She coordinated the funeral luncheons for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, sharing new recipes, playing Sudoku and hand held games at her kitchen table, John Wayne, the Chicago Cubs, and collecting elephants. She was known as the "Taco Lady" at the VFW and was "Grandma" to a host of neighborhood children. eath by her parents, husband, one son, Kevin Wasson and one daughter Pam Wasson, one step-sister Marilyn Thye Hebbeln and one step-brother, Don Thye. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Elliott Chapel with Mr. Tim Corporon officiating. According to her wishes her body was cremated and inurnment will be at a later date in Burge Cemetery, rural New London. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and a memorial has been established.
