Ramon "Ray" Charles Evenson, 89, Allouez, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Bellin Hospital due to complications of pneumonia. Ray was born on February 9, 1922 in Amherst, Wisconsin to the late Ole and Ella (Wepner) Evenson. Ray graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc and from the University of Wisconsin- Madison as a mechanical engineer. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and worked on the Manhattan District Atomic Bomb project at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Ray was proud to serve his country. In 1950, while employed in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Ray met and married the love of his life, Winnie Hudson. Two daughters were born to Ray and Winnie, Sheri and Shelly. Winnie preceded Ray in death on October 9, 1985. Sheri and husband Jeff Scheer, reside in Calhan, Co. and have five children, Sarah (James) Strait, Trista, Nathaniel and Stephen Scheer and Aimee (Jeffrey) Bapst; Shelly and husband, John Siemering, reside in Green Bay and have two children, Laura and Matthew. worker and faithful employee at the various companies where he was employed throughout his lifetime. Ray loved music, singing, writing and nature and passed that love onto his daughters. He was an excellent golfer and enjoyed caring for his beautiful yard. Ray was friendly and outgoing, making friends easily. He was always ready to lend a hand or visit with his neighbors. He especially enjoyed the people at Old Country Buffet. Ray loved babysitting his grandchildren, especially reading to them. He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Yankee. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Lyndahl Funeral Home from 5 pm until 7 pm. Visitation will continue again on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Aaron Scheer officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Ray will be sadly missed by family and friends. Memorials to Ascension Lutheran Church or Unity Hospice would be appreciated. A special thank you to the staffs of Bellin Hospital and Unity Hospice and all of the wonderful support from Ray's family, friends and neighbors.
