James Smith Devore WAPELLO, Iowa --James Smith Devore, 91, of Wapello, died at home on Friday, January 13, 2012. Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Edwards Cemetery. Lunch will be at the Louisa County Historical Society following the burial. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, where family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. with Masonic Rites given at 6 p.m. James was born on January 17, 1920, in Wapello Township, Louisa County, the son of David Earl and Merle DeEtta Callahan Devore. He attended Victory School at Fairview. He married Dorothy M. Stroup on November 5, 1940, in Morning Sun. He was a farmer and carpenter and member of the Wapello Lodge #5 A.F. and A.M. and the Danville Lodge #48 A.F. and A.M. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Devore of Wapello; daughters, Pennie Housman and husband, Tony, of Wapello, Anita Odle and husband, Steve, of Wapello, and Teresa Carver and husband, Ronm, of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Jeff Devore and wife, Alice, of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Warren Devore and Rob...[more]
