Michael Eugene Lowther, 54, of West Burlington, Iowa died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant. Born March 13, 1957 in Burlington, he was the son of Jack E. and Pauline Lowther. Mr. Lowther spent most of his life in Burlington. He graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1976 and attended SCC. He worked several places before working full time as a custodian at Burlington High School, retiring in 2001. He was an Eagle Scout and spent many summers at Camp Eastman. During his scouting years he walked hundreds of miles on various trails in Eastern Iowa. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow. As an adult, he volunteered at Camp Eastman mowing the many campsites. Mr. Lowther was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary when it was active in Burlington. He took part in many river patrols with his father and other members. He enjoyed boating, log splitting and mowing in his neighborhood. When inside, he was a NASCAR fan and put model ships together. ine Lowther of Burlington; two sisters, Linda (Kevin) McCartney of Burlington and Marsha (John) Wise of Kirksville, MO; three nephews, Nicholas (Sharon) McCartney and Abby of Raleigh, NC, Andrew (April) McCartney and Eli and Kendal of Burlington, and Brian (Sara) Wise and Travis and Matthew of Kirksville; niece, Kelly (Jeremy) Chaumont and Lily of Kirksville; adopted nephew, Brad (Whitney) Apodaca and Gavin of Kirksville. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Lowther had neighbors who helped him the past few years. Fred Schoenewe was a neighbor he could always count on for help. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, January 20th, in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mr. Lowther will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 20th, in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Shane McCampbell officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the Moose following the interment. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Camp Eastman.
