Max Dewayne Phillips, son of Claude and Ruth (Utterback) Phillips, was born on May 30, 1932, in Farragut, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, at the age of 73. Max spent most of his life in the Farragut community, where he graduated from Farragut Community High School in 1951. He was stationed with the Air Force from 1952 through 1954 in Sherman, Texas. Upon his discharge he moved back to rural Farragut and eventually into the town of Farragut, where he resided until moving to Shenandoah in 1993. On July 14, 1952, Max was united in marriage to Myrna (Slauter) Phillips, unto which five children were born, Allen King, Terry, Rick, Cherri and Penny. A faithful, loving and caring husband and father, Max supported his family in all avenues of life. During his working years he was a substitute mail carrier, worked forFarm Master Gate Company, D & L Manufacturing, and in 1972, started working for Eaton's Transmission until his retirement in 1997. amily. Preceding Max in death were his wife Myrna Phillips; parents, Claude and Ruth Phillips; brother, Carol Leon; sister, Marilyn Swett; and infant son, Allen King. Survivors include his twin brother, Rex Phillips; sister, Carolyn Uhlman; his four children, Terry Phillips and wife Betty Jo of Shenandoah, Iowa, Rick Phillips of Fremont, Nebraska, Cherri Spurlock and husband Jerry of Percival, Iowa and Penny Holm and husband Fred of Shenandoah, Iowa; two grandsons, Chris Phillips and Josh Spurlock; two granddaughters, Christy Phillips and Jennifer Spurlock; and one great granddaughter, Tressa Phillips; cousins; other relatives and many friends. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Farragut Cemetery in Farragut, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Pastor Fred Bryson.
