Dorothy Anna Maher was born on December 8, 1914, at the farmstead seven miles north of Malvern, Iowa, in Mills County. She was the youngest daughter of Herbert and Minnie (Leu) Howard. Dorothy passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, following a brief illness. She attended country grade school and graduated from Malvern High School in 1933. Following graduation she received her Normal Teacher Training Certificate and taught in Mills County country schools around Silver City and north of Imogene. On June 30, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Gerald J. Maher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene. To this union two children were born, Gary and Genene. Through the years, she was a member of St. Patrick's Altar Society, taught CCD for several years and belonged to the Strahan Garden Club and Mills County Farm Bureau. She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren in their 4-H and school activities. lude her son, Gary Maher and wife Mary of Imogene, Iowa; daughter, Genene Fienup and husband Steven of Shenandoah, Iowa; two grandchildren, Timothy Maher of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ashley Maher-Widen and husband Matthew of Des Moines, Iowa; one great grandson, Davin Maher-Widen; two step-granddaughters, Connie Viner-Blank and husband Lloyd and their children, Christopher, Ben and Michael of Emerson, Iowa and Brenda Pace and husband Larry and their children, Chehala, Kasha and Lawrence of Treynor, Iowa; nephew, Eugene Jabker and wife Joan of Florence, Alabama. Also surviving are three AFS grandchildren, Annie Ip of Hong Kong, Paolo Erba of Switzerland and Te Duangpatra of Thailand; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene. Celebrant was the Rev. Kenneth Gross. Interment was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Imogene.
