Harold Duane Martin, the son of Charles Edward and Helen Viola Robb Martin, was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on June 15, 1923, and passed away at Shenandoah Medical Center on August 21, 2006, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 6 days. Harold spent his entire life in Shenandoah, attending Rice Country School, later Shenandoah High School where he graduated with the class of 1940. On June 8, 1946 Harold married Maurine (Ennie) Pierson at Hiawatha, Kansas, and to this union two children were born, Kathy and Steve. Harold worked for Barry Seed Company, Sexaur Seed Company and later for Henry Field Seed and Nursery Company retiring in 1988. Harold was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, and Elks Lodge 1122 of Shenandoah, Iowa. Harold loved gardening, fishing, woodworking , working in his yard, refinishing furniture and spending time with his grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Martin ; mother Helen Viola Martin; sisters, Ilene Martin and Iva Powers; two brothers, Owen Martin and Chuck Martin. Cole Weaver of Ames, Iowa, Sadie Weaver of Omaha, Nebraska, Sophie Weaver of Papillion, Nebraska; son Steve Martin and wife Karen Martin of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Luke Martin and wife Amber and great granddaughter Kylie Martin all of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandson, Seth Martin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a brother, Pete Martin and wife Maggie in Colorado; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of life memorial services were held on Thursday, August 24, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Jim Gubser and Marie Hilton. Soloist was Susie Schaaf. Organist was Becky Hoenshel. Honorary bearers were "all of Harold's friends". Attending the register book were Phyllis Scott and Arlyne Collins. In charge of memorials was Janet Jones. Ushers were Jim Sligar and Darrell Jones. Inurnment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials are being directed to Habitat for Humanity, the Shenandoah Healthcare Foundation or to the First United Methodist Church. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
