Daniel P. "Dan" Long

Daniel Paul Long, was born on December 1, 1937 in Westboro, Missouri, the son of Arthur Edwin and Marjorie Helen (Leek) Long. Dan entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Dan's early years were spent in the communities of Westboro, Tarkio, and Essex. He graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1956. He later served his country as a soldier in the United States Army. On November 27, 1979 he was united in marriage to Lou Adkins in Carson City, Nevada. They resided in Woodland, California until 1981 when they returned to Southwest Iowa to reside in the Essex/Shenandoah area. During his working days Dan was employed as the Plant Manager at Farmaster in Shenandoah. He also farmed, and worked as a truck driver for AgCom, Tiemeyer Inc. and Sterling McLaren. He was a member of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge. Some of his interests included raising club calves, angus cattle, and horses. He also enjoyed telling stories and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Leroy Long, and a sister Helen May Bowles.
