Beverly Marmour Mirman passed away on November 17, 2010, soon after her 88th birthday. That birthday was spent as was her entire life, surrounded by family Â- Norman, her loving husband of 67 years; daughter Leslie and son Alan. Beverly was born in Brooklyn, New York, one of three sisters. After growing up in New York, becoming a war bride and serving as a Â"Gray LadyÂ" supporting our troops during WWII, Beverly moved west after the War, and settled in Los Angeles with husband Norman. Soon after arriving in California they started their family, and in 1962, she supplied the idea, inspiration and administrative talent as she and Norman founded the Mirman School for Gifted Children, which received her love and nurture throughout its first (almost) 50 years. Her family thrived, and the School thrived, both in such large part due to her personal, warm and human attention to detail, to substance and to spirit. Beverly was a powerful presence, never shy about expressing her opinion. Her loving nature and kind-heartedness trumped all. In addition to her family, generations of Mirman School families mourn her passing. In the words of her beloved late sister Florence Â"we were much better for having known you.Â"A family service is planned for Sunday and a memorial service will be held at Mirman School at a date to be announced.
