Memorial services for Jerry Dean Young, 52, of Tipton who died Sunday, February 19, 2012 will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:30 pm at the First United Church of Christ, Tipton. Pastor David Lorenzen will be officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 1:00 - 2:30 pm prior the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Tipton Masonic Cemetery with military rites provided by the Tipton American Legion Post 123 and Tipton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2537. A memorial fund has been established in memory of Jerry. Jerry was born February 3, 1960, in Davenport, Iowa. Jerry was the son of Martin James and Evelyn Edna Moeller Young Sterner. He attended Tipton High School and was a 1979 graduate of Minnesota High School. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Forrestal (CV-59) from 1979-1983. He was employed for 8 years at Piney Ridge Lodge Irish Hills Golf Course and 11 years with Theisen's in Tipton. Jerry enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Jerry is survived by his mother, Evelyn Sterner of Tipton, Iowa; sister, Laurie Smith of Benedict, Minnesota; brothers, Dave (Faye) Young, Mike (Rhonda) Young, and Tim Young all of Tipton, Iowa; step-sisters, Stephanie (Don) Herington of Davenport, Iowa, Susan Cunningham of Coralville, Iowa, Shelly Sterner of Moline, Illinois, Shawn Sterner of North Liberty, Iowa; step-brothers, Steve Sterner and Lee Sterner also of Tipton; many nieces and nephews, and his dog, Ivan. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Young; step-father, Dale Sterner; sister, Cindy Young Schnede; grandparents, Walter and Clara Moeller and Sylvester and Myrtle Young.
