Harley L. West

Harley Lee West, 94, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Thursday, February 23, 2012, at River Hills Village, Keokuk, IA. Harley was born on March 4, 1917, in Downing, MO, the youngest of nine children to Daniel Boone and Mary Etta Morgan West. He married Beryl Elmina Russell on March 24, 1940 in Schuyler County, MO. Harley worked as Order Department Manager at Hubinger's. He also worked for Seither and Cherry Company, Abells and the Keokuk Kernels Baseball Club. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk and the Carpenter's men's bible study. His faith was very important to him. He was also a member of Keokuk Lodge #29 AF & AM, Lion's club, Elks #106 and the Hoerner YMCA. Music was his love and passion and he participated in many local performances. He loved fishing and all sports, and also enjoyed time with his coffee group at Hy-Vee and the Hubinger retirement club. son of Colleyville, TX; eight great-grandchildren; several nephews and numerous lovely supportive friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, seven brothers and one sister. Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, February 27th at the First Christian Church with Rev. William Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, February 26th, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Keokuk.
