Phillip Duane Pfeffer was born March 21, 1936, in Algona, Iowa, to Lawrence and Eva (Halford) Pfeffer. Phil attended St. Cecelia Academy in Algona. He entered the United States Air Force at age 17, during the Korean War, and served his country in Japan. Following his discharge, he returned to school, graduating from the Minnesota State University with a Bachelor of Arts in business. On June 4, 1960, Phil was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Koepnick in Clear Lake, Iowa. The couple lived in Algona where Phil worked many years for Algona Food Equipment Company in the engineering department. In his retirement, he enjoyed working at the family business, Pfeffer Precast. Phil enjoyed camping and traveling all of his married life. He and Marge always had a camper or trailer. They also spent many winters in Texas where they met and made many life-long friends. Phil was also an avid photographer of nature through the years. He was proud of his military service, and learned some of the Japanese language while stationed in Japan. Phil became a resident of Lakeside Lutheran Care Center in Emmetsburg on January 30, 2012, and passed from his earthly life there on Friday morning, March 2, 2012, at the age of 75. Survivors include his wife Marge of Algona, son Jeff, wife Roxie and grandchildren, Ashley, Chase and Madison Pfeffer of Algona, son Dan and fiancé Lori of Des Moines, Iowa, and daughter Melanie Pfeffer of Des Moines, Iowa, as well one brother Loren Pfeffer and wife Arlene of Pine City, Minnesota. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Alexis.
