Susie Geiger died on February 26, 2012, ten years and a day after the passing of her husband and true love, Peter Geiger. She was 83.
Born Sheila Hafter on October 9, 1928 in the Bronx, New York, Susie grew up in the village of Ellenville in the Catskill Mountains. She was the daughter of Rosie and Phillip Hafter, and the sister of Bertha Schachter, Frances Hafter and Murray Hafter, all of whom predeceased her. Once a cheerleader for Ellenville High (E-L-LEN-V-I-LLE)and cocktail waitress at the Nevele Hotel, where she palled around with the likes of Buddy Hackett and Jerry Lewis. Susie settled in Encino, California, with her then-husband, Jerry Zimmerman, in the early 1960's. She lived there until her death.
She loved to laugh, to knit, to play Pan and Mahjong, and to give and give and give, but most of all she loved her family, including Jamie, Paul, Laura, Lisa, Pete, Tracey, Pat, Jack, Eli, Lily and 3-Pete. They will all sorely miss her, as will the scores of close friends she leaves behind.
Susie's funeral will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 28, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name...[more]
