Violet "Vicky" Washburn, 83, of Elwood, Iowa, died on Saturday afternoon, March 17, 2012, at her home in Elwood, Iowa. Public graveside services and burial celebrating Violet's life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, March 22, 2012, from the Elwood, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Violet "Vicky" Clarkson was born on May 24, 1928 in Wickham County, England to Edward and Luise (McMoran) Clarkson. She married Newman Washburn on May 12, 1956 in Elwood, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2003. Vicky first worked for Clinton Engines on the assembly line, and later in the housekeeping department at Crestridge Nursing Home and the Jackson County Public Hospital, both in Maquoketa. Vicky was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maquoketa, and was actively involved in the Jackson County Historical Society and the Clinton Engines Museum. She enjoyed making dolly clothes, gardening and painting, most notably scenic pictures. Her family was especially important to her.
