Lorna Phillips

Lorna Irene Phillips, one of two children of Lawson Stuart and Daisy Myrtle (Stillinger) Nelson, was born at her parent's farm home in Cass County near Griswold, IA on July 20, 1909. She grew up in the Wheeler Grove area and graduated from the Carson High School in 1928. Lorna and Clifton Lowell Phillips were married on August 16, 1930 at Red Oak, IA. They made their first home on a farm near Oakland, IA, and eventually moved to a farm near Council Bluffs, IA where they lived for a few years until moving to Carson in 1949. Lorna and Clif were blessed with their eight children, Eldon, Merle, Dean, Lowell, Alice, Ilene, Lila, and Darrell. They had been married 42 years when Clif died on March 27, 1973. Lorna was a homemaker, but also served as the Carson City Clerk, worked at the grocery store, and worked for the Iowa Power and Light Company at the Carson office. She was a member of the Carson Methodist Church and former member of the Carson Business Club. Lorna's enjoyments were her children and grandchildren, her family, and gardening.
