Pluma Florence McGrew, one of two children of Stanley A. and Henrietta (Jacobson) McCutchan, was born at Everett, Washington on September 5, 1920. Pluma graduated from Everett High School and attended Everett Business College. For the next twelve years, Pluma worked for the State of Washington and during WWII, volunteered her spare-time assisting the war effort. Pluma met William Edwin McGrew through a mutual friend and on April 18, 1953, Pluma and Bill were married at the home of her parents in Everett. They moved to a farm north of Emerson, Iowa and they established their home. Their marriage was blessed with five sons, William, Stephen, Kevin, David, and Robert. Pluma was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Pluma served her community as a member of the Nishna Valley Federated Women's Club and volunteered at Nishna Valley School as needed. She had been a Cub Scout leader and a 4-H volunteer. for the needs of their young sons. She enjoyed painting landscapes, gardening, sewing, making baskets, and cooking. Pluma died on June 29, 2002 at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, IA having attained the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 24 days. In addition to her husband Bill, Pluma was preceded in death by her parents and brother Stanley. Pluma is survived by her sons and their families: William McGrew and his wife Linda of Henderson, IA and their children William and Melissa Escritt and her husband Mervin, Stephen McGrew and his wife Nancy of Emerson, IA and their children Nicholas, Monica, and Stephanie; Kevin McGrew and his wife Diane of Red Oak, IA and their children Gena and Tianna McGrew and Megan and Nathan Wagoner; David McGrew and his wife Paula of Emerson and their daughter Makayla; Robert McGrew and his wife Tammie of Emerson and their children Heath and Leah; sister-in-law Irene McCutchan of Everett, WA; brother-in-law Everett McGrew and his wife Irene of Emerson; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
