Lyle Lincoln Forristall, one of five children of Lesley Winans and Mary Pearl (Giltner) Forristall, was born at his parent's home at Carson, IA on February 3, 1919. He grew up in the Carson area where he attended country school through the eighth grade at Oak Grove District #7 School. In 1937, Lyle graduated from the Carson High School and went to work for Anderson-Erickson Dairy washing milk bottles and found nighttime work as a dishwasher. Lyle and Ellen Viola Davenport were married on September 14, 1940 at Papillion, NE and accepted an invitation from Lyle's brother to join him in the gardening business in California. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Lyle made plans to join the U. S. Military and they moved back to the Carson area so Ellen, who was now expecting their first child, could be near her family. Lyle's health kept him out of the military and he eventually turned to a life-long farming career. Their marriage was blessed with three sons Louis Edward, Lawrence Steven, and Lowell Lynn. in the Carson community where they were members of the Wheeler Grove Church. Lyle was Past Master of the Coral Masonic Lodge No. 430, Past Patron of the Carson Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Scottish Right and Tangier Shrine. Lyle served on the extension council for West Pottawattamie County and was a life long member of Farm Bureau. During the 1950's, Lyle was recognized and received various awards for pioneering the development of soil conservation using only his plow to construct terraces. Through the years, Lyle and Ellen enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, traveling, camping and fishing. After retiring, Lyle and Ellen spent their winters at Weslaco, TX where they continued to be active and were charter members of the Winter Texan Lions Club. Lyle and Ellen had been married 62 years when Lyle died on August 21, 2002 at their winter home in Weslaco, TX, having attained the age of 83 years, 6 months and 18 days. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lloyd and Loren Forristall, and sisters Ladema Umatum and Phyllis Hundt. He is survived by his wife Ellen Forristall of Carson, IA; sons Louis Forristall and his wife Patricia of Sargent, TX, Larry Forristall and his wife Kathy of Sioux Falls, SD and Lowell Forristall and his wife Debra of Carson, IA; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
