Bonny Vorthmann

Yvonne Ferne Vorthmann, one of six children of Fremodt Bondo and Mildred Iona (Spencer) Hansen, was born at Council Bluffs, IA on January 14, 1934. The family lived in Boomer Township near Underwood, IA where Yvonne, familiarly known as Bonny, attended school. After graduating from Underwood High School in 1952, she attended Dana College at Blair, NE. After one year of college, Bonny was certified to teach in country schools and accepted a teaching position near Hooper, NE. Bonny and Alfred Henry Vorthmann of Treynor, IA were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Underwood on May 30, 1954. They established their home southwest of Treynor on land that Alfred's grandparents purchased from the railroad. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Kirk, Robin, Aaron, Jill, and Niles. In addition to her duties as a homemaker, Bonny owned and operated The Country Heart Boutique, a small antique store and gift shop, on Main Street in Treynor from 1986 to 1996. teacher. In 1980, Bonny and Alfred moved to their present home in Treynor and were able to enjoy spending winters in Sun City, AZ. While in Arizona, they were associate members of the American Lutheran Church where Bonny participated in comprehensive Bible study. In addition to caring for her family, Bonny was a devoted daughter and cared for her parents following her mother's stroke and as her father's health declined. Bonny and Alfred had been married for nearly 49 years when Bonny died at N.H.S. University Hospital in Omaha, NE on May 10, 2003. She had attained the age of 69 years, 3 months, and 26 days. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Robin Rochelle Vorthmann in 1957; parents Fremodt and Mildred Hansen; sister-in-law Marion Hansen; and father-in-law Walter H. Vorthmann. Bonny is survived by her husband, Alfred Vorthmann of Treynor; daughter Jill Hook and husband David of Newton, IA; sons Kirk Vorthmann and wife Lynell of Treynor, Aaron Vorthmann and wife Teri of Carson, IA, and Niles Vorthmann of Treynor; brothers Gary Hansen of Door County, WI and Tim Hansen and his wife Kathy of Clarinda, IA; sisters Nancy Kagel of St. Louis, MO, Gloria Logerman and husband Jim of Houston, TX, and Gayla Newmiester and husband Michael of Mt. Vernon, IA; and mother-in-law Rieka Vorthmann of Oakland, IA and nine grandchildren.
