Evelyn Joy Hopkinson Beason, one of seven children of Harry Albert and Carry Addie (Hunt) Pickinpaugh, was born at Bassett, Nebraska on April 30, 1919. When Joy was five, the family moved to Silver City, Iowa where she attended school. Following school, Joy began working for various families in the Silver City area. Joy and Victor Orville Hopkinson of Silver City were married at Pacific Junction, Iowa on February 14, 1940. They established a home in Pacific Junction where Joy was a homemaker and cared for their four children, Marcia, Galen, Victor Vance, and Valorie. Joy eventually took a job working at the P. J. Railroad Restaurant. Later finding that she could work and maintain her responsibilities to her family, Joy began working at a Glenwood, Iowa laundry. She later found work at the Union Carbide plant in Red Oak, Iowa. Desiring to work closer to home, Joy returned to work at the Glenwood laundry. Joy and Victor had been married for 24 years when Victor died in 1964. Joy and Kenneth Charles Beason of Grinnell, Iowa were married in 1969. ntinued to live in Des Moines until her retirement in 1985. She then moved back to Pacific Junction were she enjoyed being near her children and friends. Joy entered the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa for treatment of pneumonia on April 27, 2004. She died at the hospital on June 4th at the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 4 days. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Orville Hopkinson and Kenneth Beason; sisters Marvel Simmering and Fern Wetter; brothers Lloyd Pickinpaugh, Wayne Pickinpaugh, and Albert Pickinpaugh. Joy is survived by her children Marcia Williams and her husband Donald, Galen Hopkinson, Vance Hopkinson, and Valorie Delashmutt and her husband William "Neal" all of Pacific Junction; brother George Pickinpaugh and his wife Alice of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
