Eva Jane Wallace, one of six children of Elbert Winchester and Helen Marie (Wight) Winchester, was born at Rogers, Arkansas on August 4, 1922. Her first few years were near the Arkansas community of Little Flock. When Eva Jane was a young girl, the family moved to Henderson, Iowa. She attended the Henderson Public School. Eva Jane and Veldon George Wallace were married at the KMA Radio Station in Shenandoah, Iowa on August 25, 1937. Their marriage ceremony was part of a live radio program and KMA provided the wedding as a gift to the bride and groom. Their first home was on a farm south of Henderson where Eva Jane enjoyed her role as a homemaker. They were blessed with five children, Nancy, Velda, Helen, George "Butch", and Roger. In addition to homemaking, Eva Jane accepted a job with Union Carbide in Red Oak, Iowa. Among Eva Jane and Veldon's many enjoyments were camping and fishing trips. Eva Jane was a member of the Henderson Christian Church and the Christian Church Ladies Aid. In 1980, she retired from Union Carbide. e continued to live in her home in Henderson. While her health permitted, she enjoyed walking in the Henderson Gym and attending senior citizen events. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and had made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Eva Jane died at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa on April 27, 2005 at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Josephine Kennel; husband Veldon Wallace; sons Butch Wallace and Roger Wallace; daughter Helen West; granddaughter Amanda Wallace, grandson David Mays, and great-grandson Nathan West. Eva Jane is survived by her daughters Nancy Van Pelt and husband Kenneth of Henderson, IA and Velda Myers of Macedonia, IA; son-in-law Roger West of Council Bluffs, IA and daughter-in-law Kathy Paonessa of Henderson; 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; sister Geneva Erickson of Red Oak, IA; brothers Norman Winchester and his wife Norma of Carroll, IA, Eugene Winchester of Council Bluffs and James Winchester and wife Joann of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
