Charles Ford Vinton, one of three sons of Charles "Ernest" Vinton and Carrie "Alice" (McCormick) Vinton, was born on his parent's farm north of Pacific Junction, Iowa on June 25, 1915. Charles grew up in the Pacific Junction area where he attended school through the 10th grade before joining his family full time on the farm. Charles and Ila Louise Clay were married in the parsonage of the United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa on February 22, 1938. They made their first home on a farm south of Malvern, Iowa until 1941 when they purchased a farm east of Silver City, Iowa. In 1948, they sold the farm and purchased a farm west of Pacific Junction, where they moved in 1950. Charles and Ila were blessed with two children, Roger Lee who died in infancy and Sandra Kay. Charles loved the farm. He was a member of F.H.A. for four years and served 20 years on the Mills County Conservation Board, during which time he played a crucial role in the development of the Pony Creek Conservation Area. main active in farming. Charles and Ila had been married nearly 57 years when Ila died in January of 1993. Charles continued to live in his Glenwood home until 2001 when he moved to Marysville, Kansas to be closer to his daughter Sandra and her family. Charles died at the Cambridge Assisted Living in Marysville on April 29, 2005 at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ila Vinton; infant son Roger Vinton; and brother Wendell Vinton. Charles is survived by his daughter Sandra Horn and her husband Iven of Beattie,KS; brother Burl Vinton and his wife Sue of Pacific Junction, IA; grandchildren Dawnell Block and her husband James of Glenwood, IA and Wyatt Horn and his wife Jennifer of Breman, KS; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
