Violet Doris Keast, the oldest of two daughters of Oliver Morton Walker and Lillie Mae (Parker) Walker, was born April 18, 1909 in Belknap Township near Oakland, Iowa. Violet grew up in the Oakland area and graduated from Oakland High School in 1928. Following school, she worked at the Farm Bureau Office. Violet and Leland David Keast were united in marriage on April 18, 1930 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home on the Keast farm in rural Carson, Iowa where Leland was born. Violet and Leland were blessed with two sons, Darrell Dean, who died in infancy and Darwin Eugene. Violet enjoyed her role as mother and farmwife. She helped Leland with the fieldwork and livestock and was always there to feed the hay crew. She raised a large garden, canned, and preserved the produce. She enjoyed cooking and baking and always provided plenty of food. Violet enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and also had a great interest in genealogy. Violet died at the Manor on June 7, 2005 at the age of 96 years, 1 month, and 19 days. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, husband, and sister Anna May Osler. She is survived by her son Darwin Keast and his wife Sharon of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren, Mark Keast of Carson, Janet Bell and her husband Scott of Council Bluffs, Susan Law and her husband Derek of Council Bluffs; four great grandchildren, Ben, Spencer and Jacob Bell and Jayden Law, all of Council Bluffs; nieces and other relatives.
