Dorothy Elizabeth Hotze, one of four children of Sophie (Bebensee) and Herman Claus Trede, was born on March 23, 1925, on a farm near Treynor, Iowa. She grew up in the Keg Creek area, attending country school and then school in Treynor. The family moved to Griswold, Iowa when Dorothy was a senior and she graduated from Griswold High School in 1942. Following school, she attended Boyles College of Business in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In February of 1944, Dorothy married Cleo Harold "Bud" Hotze at her parent's home near Treynor. They made their home on a farm near Macedonia, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Terry Ray, Dennis Eugene, Peggy Lee, Wendell Robert, and Gary Lynn. The family moved into Macedonia, Iowa in 1962. Dorothy worked at the Jumbo Café in Carson and in the lunchroom at the Macedonia school for a number of years. Dorothy and Bud divorced in 1972 and Dorothy moved to a farm north of Carson, Iowa. Dorothy worked at the Area 13 Media Department near Council Bluffs, Iowa for 20 years and retired in 1990. and crossword puzzles, handwork, sewing and crocheting. Dorothy moved to Oakland Manor in Oakland, Iowa in October of 2001. She passed away at the Manor on December 6, 2007 at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 13 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Peggy Sick in 2001; great grandson Wyatt Sick; brother Bob Trede; sister Wilma Wilber and her husband Gola; and brother-in-law Bernard Hiller. Dorothy is survived by her sons Terry Hotze and his wife Helen of Marion, Illinois, Dennis Hotze of Treynor, Iowa, Wendell Hotze and his wife Janell of Carson, Iowa and Gary "Ernie" Hotze, also of Carson; sister Elaine Hiller of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
