in a sugar beet plant, plus a few manufacturing jobs and farming. In 1987, Phillip earned his Computer Programming Associates Degree at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In June of 1988, he volunteered for nine months at the Independence Mental Health Institute before moving to Glenwood, Iowa to begin working at the Glenwood Resource Center on March 6, 1989. Phillip retired on June 25, 2009, as a computer programmer for the State of Iowa. Phillip enjoyed computer programming, fishing and taking good care of his cat, "Puddy Tat". Phillip passed away on September 17, 2009, at his home in Glenwood, at the age of 57 years, 3 months, and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Gonterman. He is survived by his mother, Edith Gonterman of Bonaparte;children, Phillip Carl Gonterman, Jr. and wife Laurie Ann and their daughters RyAnne and Tatum of Hillsdale, Illinois, Blake Gonterman of Chandler, Arizona, Matthew Gonterman of Creston, Iowa, and Joshua Gonterman of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Japan; companion, Lorri Seufert of Glenwood; brother Marty Gonterman and wife Roberta of Bonaparte; nieces, Heather Thompson and husband Wayne and their daughters, Kiersten and Brianne of Spencer, Iowa, and Jamie Gates and husband Terry and their daughter Amelia Grace of Birmingham, Iowa; other relatives and friends. A memorial fund has been established.
