James Harvey Moon, one of two children of Mabel Marie (Cole) and Alfred Moon, was born on August 22, 1929 in Maroa, Macon County, Illinois. He grew up in the Macon County area where he attended school. At age 18, Jim began his 20-year career with the United States Air Force and was stationed all over the world. He received various awards while serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Jim and Clara Jean Stivers were married on April 27, 1950 and the family lived in the areas where Jim was stationed. His final station was at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska and the family made their home in Carter Lake, Iowa. Following his discharge, Jim began work as a letter carrier for the Post Office in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He and Clara eventually divorced. Jim and Rogene Olga (Schroeder) Watson were married on July 14, 1977 in Papillion, Nebraska and made their home in Mineola, Iowa. Jim retired in 1984, after 17 years of walking his mail routes in Council Bluffs. In 1999, they moved to live in Glenwood, Iowa. had served as charter president. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours fishing and hunting. He also loved to take his Brittany dogs along while he hunted. Later on Jim spent many early morning hours riding his bike on the Wabash Trace. He often participated in various fund-raising rides in the area and had logged over 4400 miles on his bike. His sense of humor and quick wit brought many smiles to those who knew and loved him. Jim had a deep love for the Lord, his wife and family. Jim had fought a courageous battle with a long illness when he passed away on August 12, 2011 at Hospice with Heart home in Glenwood. He attained the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 20 days. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son David Richard Moon; daughter Gay Lynn Moon; and sister Mary Ann Moon. Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rogene Moon of Glenwood; sons, Dan Moon and wife Denise of Penrose, CO, and Clair Watson and wife Sharon of Bellevue, NE; daughters, Lavella Denison and husband John of Palmdale, CA, Kathy Dyer and husband Eric of Bakersfield, CA, and Julia Ponce and husband Jaime of Papillion, NE; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
