Carolyn A. Roenfeld

Carolyn Ann Roenfeld, one of three children of Irvin Leonard Core and Bertha Marie (Young) Core, was born on May 7, 1926 on a farm near Oakland, Iowa. The family moved to the Carson community where Carolyn graduated from high school in 1943. She began her working career with Dunn & Bradstreet in Omaha, Nebraska and later, during World War II, Carolyn worked for Council Bluffs Savings Bank in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Carolyn and Myron "Mike" Roenfeld were married April 29, 1944 at Rock Port, Missouri. They were blessed with a daughter, Sheri and sons, Richard, David, Michael, and Byron. Carolyn was a farm wife who enjoyed the outdoor life and shared in the farm work. In 1971, Mike and Carolyn both began working at the Glenwood State Hospital School where Carolyn was a Resident Treatment Worker. In 1973, they moved to Malvern and in 1982, purchased their home at 407 Marion Avenue in Malvern. Mike retired in 1987 and Carolyn retired in 1988. died on October 26, 1993 in Council Bluffs. Carolyn remained living in her Malvern home with son David and enjoyed visits from her family and grandchildren. She passed away at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 3, 2011 at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 26 days. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mike Roenfeld; sister Corinne Laire and husband Loring; brother Ardith "Bud" Core and wife Betty; brothers-in-law, Albert A. Roenfeld and wife Catherine, Milton Roenfeld and Paul Roenfeld. Carolyn is survived by her daughter Sheri Wallace and husband Dennis of Council Bluffs; sons, Richard Roenfeld and wife Kathy of Silver City, IA, David Roenfeld and friend Liz Hatfield, Mike Roenfeld and wife Sue Ann, and Byron Roenfeld, all of Malvern; grandchildren, Dionne Perrin and husband Timothy, Dennis Wallace and wife Shelley, Lohn Roenfeld, Christopher Roenfeld and wife Amanda, Troy Roenfeld and wife Erin, Carol Bartholet and husband Mike, Lyndsi Roenfeld, Justin Roenfeld and wife Megan, Jeremiah Roenfeld, Alexandra Roenfeld, Nicholas Roenfeld and Gabriella Roenfeld; twelve great grandchildren, Hayley, Taylor, Olivia, Emma, Maddie, Gage, Keegan, Carter, Cody, Slade, Benjamin, and Gracie; sisters-in-law, Violet Roenfeld of Council Bluffs, and June Maher and husband Carl of Shenandoah, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
