John Banks, age 85, of Carlisle, Oh went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2012 at Carlisle Manor. John was born in Blackey, Ky on March 18, 1927 to Eli and Nancy (Maggard) Banks, and lived in southeastern Kentucky before moving his family to Carlisle in 1966. John served in the United States Navy as a Seaman from 4-13-1945 to 4-26-1946. John retired from the Sorg Paper Company in 1988 after 22 years of service. John loved taking care of his yard, mowing grass and weed eating and listening to gospel hymns. He was affectionately known as Pop to his kids and Fat to his family. John was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Middletown, Oh. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 63 years, Ruth (Yeary) Banks (Nov 30, 2011), step-father, Tom Wilkerson, brothers Enice, Earl, Elbert "Buck", Howard, Hearld, LeRoy, Edwin and Grant, sisters Verna Mae Crowe and Goldie Banks. cé Chris Williams, Brian (Angel) Smith, Deana (Dwayne) Taylor, Jake (Sherrie) Banks, Mary Banks, Jason Banks, and Steve (Leigh Ann) Banks,13 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren; Alan (Becky) Howell and Mike (Lila) Howell, and 4 step great grandchildren. He also leaves 3 sisters, Opal Sizemore, Lillian "Sister" Caudill and Melissa Jean Turley, also a brother Boney Banks (Beulah) and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be Thursday 10:00 am at the Anderson Funeral Home, 40 N. Main St., Springboro with Rev. Greg Banks officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday 5 - 8 pm at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Carlisle Manor for their loving and devoted care of our Pop the last 18 months and Hospice Crossroads for making him comfortable during his last few days.
