Gerald "Jerry" Gilmore, 95, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, June 16, 2012, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Monmouth, Iowa Cemetery. Gerald Gilmore was born on April 22, 1917 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Earl and Jessie M. (Sokol) Gilmore. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1935 and then attended a business college in Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Dorothy Kleeman on September 26, 1940 in Waverly, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2007. He then married Dorothy Clapp Nabb on June 19, 2011 in rural Monmouth, Iowa. Jerry had worked as a rural postal carrier for many years. He had also served as the Post Master in Monmouth, Iowa for 12 years. He retired on March 14, 1975. Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nabb of Maquoketa, IA; a son, Dr. Thomas (Charlene) Gilmore of Medford, OR; a grandson, Matt (Kris) Zuber of Ft. Collins, CO, whom Jerry and Dorothy helped raise; step-children, Linda (Ron) Behne of Bernard, IA, Randy (DeNise) Nabb of Wasilla, AK, and Don (Donna) Nabb of Dallas, TX; 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Ethel, Mildred and Elaine, a brother, George, and his first wife, Dorothy.
