Miriam J. "Mim" Stockham, 87, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Tuesday morning, July 10, 2012, at her home in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of Mim's life will be held at 10 A.M., Friday, July 13, 2012, from the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Thursday, July 12, 2012, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. The family requests casual dress. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Miriam Jane Jargo was born on September 20, 1924 in Preston, Iowa, to John and Vera (White) Jargo. She grew up in Preston and then moved to Maquoketa. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and had attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon. She married Robert L. "Bob" Stockham on July 21, 1946 in Maquoketa, Iowa. "Mim" had worked at the former Fishing Tackle Company in Maquoketa during World War II. After her marriage, she became a homemaker and raised a family. "Mim" was a member of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. golfing, camping, and traveling with Bob on motor home excursions from coast to coast for over 20 years. She also enjoyed baking and cooking and was known amongst family for her sugar cookies, cherry pies and potato salad. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Bob Stockham of Maquoketa, IA; children, Lynne (Olin) Quissell of Maquoketa, IA, and Dave (and girlfriend Kris Ehlinger) of Maquoketa, IA; 3 grandchildren, Thad Stockham of Santa Cruz, CA, Dr. Abigail Stockham of Cleveland, OH, and Ashley Stockham of Santa Cruz, CA; nieces, Pam Cameron, Paula Parker, Sandy Atwood, Toni Roberts, Laurie Jargo and Toby Jargo; nephews, Steven Nanini, Chris Jargo and Jay Jargo; and special caregivers, Amy Johnson, Melissa Ray and Lana Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Jargo, a sister, Donna Harris, and a sister-in-law, Blanche Stockham Freytag. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ, Hospice of Jackson County or to a charity of the donor's choice.
