He moved his family to Chariton in 1961 to supervise the construction of the mile long bridge project at Red Rock. He received a Merritt Award as Field Supervisor from the Iowa State Highway Commission in 1970 for the Best Interstate-Primary Project completed in the state. He was a 50 year Mason, 32nd degree with the Davenport Consistory and a member of the KAABA Shrine in Davenport and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Chariton. Everett will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. His passions were the Cubs, fishing with his brothers, and golf. Everett surveyed the land for the Cedarcrest Golf Course in Columbus Junction. While living in Chariton, he served as President for the board of directors at the Lakeview Golf and Country Club. During his golfing career he won multiple championships at both courses. In 2000, Everett and Jeanette moved to Altoona to be closer to their family He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanette Strapp; two daughters, Janean Stuart and husband, Corwin, of Brooklyn and Amy Stapp-Arpy Arpy and husband, Brian, of Altoona; two sons, Randy Stapp and wife, Barbara, of Norwalk and Gary Stapp and wife, Tammy, of Altoona; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Joan Matthews and husband, Bob, of Wapello, Barbara Harbison and husband, Joe, of California, Judy Ross of Florida, and Linda Underwood and husband, Denny, of Moravia; and two brothers, Sam Stapp and wife, Karen, and Larry Stapp and wife, Peggy, both of Wapello. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mamie Spears, Darlene Johnson, and Janet Culbertson; and three brothers, Bob, Mick, and Kirk Strapp.
