Margaret Jean Edwards-Pender

Margaret "Peggy" Edwards Pender, age 76 of Newton, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A gathering will be held on Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Following the gathering there will be an informal time to share stories. There will also be a private family memorial service held on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. The daughter of Omar and Iva (Hipsley) Hummel, Peggy was born on February 26, 1936 in Newton. In 1953, she was united in marriage to Russell A. Edwards. She worked for several years as a caretaker at Clearview Manor in Prairie City and also would do respite care following Clearview's closing. Also surviving are a sister, Patty Withers of Colfax, a brother Leroy Hummel of Newton, a sister-in-law, Marsha Hoft of Osage Beach, Missouri, a brother-in-law, Dick Edwards of Colfax; four step children, Mike, Marty, John and Melody and her loving dog Elvis. Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands, four sisters and an infant brother.
