Clyde M. Hirn, age 73, passed away Wednesday, August 1, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Hirn was born December 5, 1938, in Mendon, Ohio, to Ernest and Inez Hirn. Mr. Hirn is survived by his wife Alice and daughter Michele (Sunrise, FL), daughter Patricia( James) of St. Mary's, OH, grandson, Joseph (Nicole) Roberts, of St. Mary's, OH, and two great-grand -daughters Elyssa and Kelsey of St. Mary's, OH, a brother Paul of St. Mary's. OH, a sister Margaret (Don) Baker of Spencerville, OH, and sister Eloise (Lewis) Hubble of Bluffton, IN, two long-time friends David Malone and Emilia Macias of Dayton, OH, and a cousin-in-law Griffin Kipyeko. Mr. Hirn was pre-deceased by his parents Ernest and Inez Hirn, a brother Glen Hirn, and a favorite aunt Ada Gayer. Mr. Hirn graduated from Mendon Union High School (Mendon, OH) in 1956 and from Wright State University in 1972. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1956, trained in electronics, and served until 1962. He then worked for and retired from the City of Dayton in the Radio Department from 1963-1989. From 1990-1991 he lived and worked on Grand Cayman Island in the field of communications technology. he U.S. State Department in 1992 as an Information Management Technical Specialist. While in the State Department he was based in Washington, D.C., Ft. Lauderdale, Nairobi, and Pretoria, South Africa. While in Nairobi, he earned the Secretary's Award for the injuries he sustained during the 1998 terrorist attack of Nairobi by Osama bin Ladin. Mr. Hirn was a member of Plantation United Methodist Church. He was an accomplished radio ham operator (call letters W8ALN). He was a master scuba diver who took dive trips all around the world. He aided the city of Dayton in underwater recovery. He loved to travel. Everyone who knew him understood how much he hated the cold weather. His favorite pastimes were reading and taking daily walks in the Florida sunshine. There will be a visitation at Plantation United Methodist Church, 1001 NW 70th Ave, Plantation, FL, on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 9:30-10:30AM.
