Jerrold "Joe" Funk

Jerrold (Joe) William Funk was born December 9, 1935, at Algona, Iowa to William and Bessie Mildred (Scovel) Funk. Joe attended and graduated from Algona High School where he was a star athlete. He held four athletic school records and continues to hold the long jump record to this day. In 1955, Joe was united in marriage to Janice Kickbush in Algona and to this union four children were born, Vicky L., William (Bill) D., Barbara A. and Mary A. On April 17, 1971, Joe was united in marriage to Patricia Long in Burt, Iowa and to this union two children were born, Anna and Mark. Joe worked for the railroad and the ASCS office before his careers at North Central Public Service and Hormel retiring in 1998. As hobbies, Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was one of the founding members of the Walleye Club in Algona. Playing the guitar and singing were special interests of Joe as he played and sang at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona for two years with Pastor Harp and he recorded and produced two songs, "Goodbye My Friend" and "Are You Ready". Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
