Barbara Ellen Masters

Barbara Ellen Masters, 78, Green Bay, passed away, Thursday, August 16, 2012. Barbara was born to the late Mabel (Pascoe) and John Niemi on April 10, 1934 in Hancock, Michigan. She was raised in Houghton and graduated from the Houghton High School in June, 1953. While in high school, she worked on the school newspaper and sang alto with the school chorus group. After graduation, Barbara worked at the Dosier Music House as a secretary and receptionist and at the Douglas Houghton Hotel as bookkeeper and switchboard operator. She met and married Wayne Masters at the age of 23 in Houghton, Michigan on November 2, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Hancock, Michigan. After Wayne's graduation from Michigan Tech University in Houghton, they moved to Wheeling, Illinois and lived there for 15 years. Wayne and Barbara then moved to Green Bay and retired at the age of 62. Wayne preceded her in death on July 18, 2001. Barbara enjoyed reading, crafts, latch hooking, cross- stitching and stamped embroidery. as on the Worship Committee. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club, a member of Naomi Circle of Bethany, played Bingo and was part of the Breakfast Club. Barbara volunteered for church office work helping put out the church newspaper, the Christmas booklet for the Needy Committee and helped with Wednesday night family dinners and funeral luncheons. Barbara is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Lester) Howard; a son, Bill Masters; three grandchildren, Jessica (Bryan) Korpal, Angela Masters and Raymond Howard; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Roxxanna Korpal; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (James) Pascoe in Escanaba, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Ruth Schumacher, Munising, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Shirley Niemi, Dodgeville, Michigan; a sister-in-law, (Vera) Masters, Longview, Texas; a brother-in-law, Chester Masters, Michigan; nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; one brother, Bill Niemi; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Masters; two brothers-in-law, Robert Schumacher and Donald Masters. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday, August 23, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1110 Echo Lane, from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am with Reverend Randell Richter officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising, Michigan.
