Vernon "Shug" Blunt

Vernon "Shug" Blunt, 81, of Fort Dodge passed away on Thursday October 20, 2011 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Vernon was born in Fort Dodge on November 27, 1929 to Virgil and Minnie Blunt. He grew up and attended school in Fort Dodge. He married Lois Kalsow in 1951. He married Helen Kolesar in 1961. He owned and operated his own construction company and worked various construction jobs over the years specializing in finishing concrete. He retired from Lynn Schultz Construction. In his younger years he enjoyed playing pool, horse shoes and fishing. Vernon is survived by his children Linda Gibson, Julie (John) Kollman, Mary Ann (Bruce) Pliner and Chris (Lynn) Schultz; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; his siblings Ilene Rink, Jack (Pat) Blunt, Barb (Gene) Kutz, Sharon Hendrickson and Virgie (John) Fey and his sister-in-law Helen Blunt. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; daughter Betty Ann; granddaughter Michelle and his siblings Doris Gast, Ella Mae Nelson, Delbert Blunt, Robert Blunt and Fred Blunt.[more]
