Jean Marie Engler, 88, of Ft. Dodge, died Dec. 9, 2011 at the Paula Baber Hospice Home. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Faulkner Martin officiating. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. Interment will be in the Early Union Cemetery in Early. The family will greet friends during a light lunch in the Christian Life Center of First Presbyterian Church from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Jean is survived by her husband Tom; and daughter Rona Patterson of La Center, WA; two grandchildren, Kara of Chula Vista, CA; and Craig of Seattle, WA; one brother John, of West Des Moines, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her son Gary and parents, Edna and Guy De Garmo, three sisters, Francis, Ruby, and Judy, and one brother, Melvin (killed in WW2). 2 and then married her childhood sweetheart, Tom on June 26, 1948 in the First Presbyterian Church in Early, IA. Both she and Tom grew up in that church; they simply grew up together in Early, IA. Jean worked as secretary at various places in Ft. Dodge, where she lived with her family for approx. 60 years. The last two years, she and Tom lived in Friendship Haven. Jean was simply a beautiful person and had many friends and belonged to several local groups.
