Gilbert "Gib" Hartig, 75, of Fort Dodge passed away on Wednesday December 28, 2011 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday December 31, 2011 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Gib was born in Manson, IA on February 18, 1936 to John and Nina Hartig. He grew up and graduated from Manson High School. He married Lonnetta Anderson on February 22, 1958. He worked for Kallin-Johnson Monument for over 30 years where he then retired. He then worked for Fort Dodge Housing up to the time of his death. He loved spending time with his family, horseback riding, playing cribbage, cards, polka dancing and he was avid fan of John Wayne movies. He also enjoyed writing stories about horses.
Gib is survived by his wife Lonnie; daughters Tammy (Terry) Arndt of Burlington, ND; Jody (Larry) Knowles of Fort Dodge and Sonja (Quentin) Kocher of Mason City, IA; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his brothers Don (Velma) Hartig of Manson, IA and Wayne Hartig of Cherokee, IA.
