Betty Jean Larson

Betty Jean Larson, 79, of Badger, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger. Burial will be in the Blossom Hill Cemetery rural Badger. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Betty Jean Person, the daughter of Per and Myrtle (Rosenquist) Person, was born June 30, 1932 in Burnside, Iowa. She attended school in Gowrie and Badger Country School and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. On March 30, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Lester Larson at the Badger Lutheran Church. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Badger area. Betty Jean taught school in a one room school house and taught in the Fort Dodge Community School District. In her retirement Betty Jean was a substitute teacher, teaching until just two years ago. She loved cooking and baking for her kids and grandchildren. Fort Dodge and their son Erik; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy (Larry) Hall of Badger, and their children, Matthew, Ben and Molly; Kristi (Lt. Col. (Ret.) Michael) Bruen of Humboldt, and their children, Joe, Emma and Anna; Rachel (Sean O'Leary) Larson of Naperville, IL, and their children, Connor and Sydney; two brothers, Gene (Ann) Person of Fort Dodge and Vernon Person of Dakota City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents; three brothers, Lester Person, Gaylen Pierson, and Dean Person. Betty Jean Larson was an active member of the Badger Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, several church circles, chairperson of many church organizations, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Swedish Club, Sons of Norway, Badger Lions, and was very involved with several area Bible study groups. Betty Jean loved being with her family and having visitors to her home. Betty Jean especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and will be truly missed by all.
