John E. Nelson

A Celebration of Life for John will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. His family will greet friends one hour prior to that celebration. John Edward Nelson was born September 22, 1941 in Sibley, IA, son of Floyd and Mary (O'Byrne) Nelson. John grew up in Eagle Grove graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1960. He worked then for a short time for his family at Nelson Furniture Store. John was married to Diana Warner on December 23, 1961. They were later divorced. John served his country in the National Guard making the rank of Lieutenant. He was united in marriage to Betty Arden-Witte on June 25, 1983 in Fort Dodge. He worked 31 years for Hormel Foods in Algona before retiring in 2004. He then enjoyed driving Transit Bus for Exceptional Opportunities in Burt. John loved being with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and watching football. He was a past member of the Shriners. John E. Nelson died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, at the age of 70. Stephanie Miller of Ames; three step-children, Tammy (Scott) England of Attleboro, MA, Gary (Tanya) Witte of Calendar, and Dan (Pam) Witte of Fort Dodge; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marylin (Tom) Vandekamp of Des Moines; and one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
