Robert W. "Red" Lane, 76, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Saturday evening, September 1, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Robert W. "Red" Lane was born on March 23, 1936 in Davenport, Iowa, to Leo and Florence (Kinley) Lane. He grew up in Maquoketa and graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1954 where he was active in football, basketball and track. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1957. He married Jacqualine Ann "Jackie" Lancaster on April 14, 1962 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2004. "Red" had worked at gas station's during high school and then drove cattle trucks for a short time. "Red" had been a member of the Maquoketa Fire Department for over 45 years, serving as Assistant Fire Chief for several years. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Bears and Hawkeyes, Nascar Racing and going to the local stock car races. "Red" is survived by his sons, Robert, Jr. "Bob" (Deb) Lane of Maquoketa, IA, and Kenneth "Ken" (Traci) Lane of Maquoketa, IA; 3 grandchildren, Matthew, Kristin and Ali; 1 step-grandchild, Ryne; and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Jayden and Rylan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Robert W. "Red" Lane memorial fund has been established.
